The Rock
By Moreh Yoel ben Kol
Often time many wonder who YHWH is and often try to define who He is. This can not be done as YHWH is not like anything that is in creation, but there are Scriptures that use figures of speech to give us a knowledge of Him. One of these figures of speech is tzur (rock). We surely can not think of YHWH as a rock you see while you walk around in the wilds, but you can see how it is applied to Him as not changing and the one we can look steadfast to.
The Rock, His work is perfect, {Devarim 32:4}
You were unmindful of the Rock that bore you, {Devarim 32:18}
there is no rock like our Elohim. {Alef Shmuel 2:2}
for Yah, - YHWH - is an everlasting rock. {Yeshayahu 26:4}
"Look, there is a place by me where you will stand on the rock, {Shemot 33:21}
O Rock, have established them for reproof. {Chavakuk 1:12}
Now from those above we see that YHWH is our Rock and He alone brought us forth and He alone we are to look to.
Now what can be said of Yeshua our Mashiakh? Shliakh Shaul makes clear mention of Yeshua as a rock, by pointing out it was He with our fathers in the desert.
For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Messiah. {Alef Corinthya 10:4}
Now Yeshua haMashiakh even make reference to rock, while it is indirect of Him, it is in regard to the very foundation of His work to bring the good news to Israel.
And Yeshua answered him, "Blessed are you, Simeon Bar-Yonah! For flesh and blood hasn't revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Kefa, and on this rock I will build my assembly, and the gates of Sheol won't prevail against it. . . “
Shalom and blessing to you all
Yoel
